This week I have been concentrating on preparing small portable items for the fair at the Cheltenham Racecourse this coming Friday and Saturday. The cakestands have been hard work. It’s taken me months of scouring markets and charity shops to collect various items to make into a homogenous and appealing whole and I hope you like the  result.

carved Dutch coat rack

Coat rack with carved corbels

I bought this coat rack at the Delft Antiques market which is strewn out along the canals every Saturday during the summer months. I have painted it in two shades, a Prussian blue followed by a coat of Paris Grey, to accentuate the elaborate carvings.

scandinavian style chair

Gustavian style chair

This beautifully carved chair with its scroll ends has a Gustavian or Scandanavian feel to it. It is wider than most chairs and arrived in this blue finish, which I have left. The cane seat is in very good condition.

Finally, this little chair has an unusual seat woven of rope. It has been very lightly painted in a dark Prussian blue to complement the original tones of the wood.

All these items can be found in the Other Projects and Painted Furniture Galleries and I will be bringing the cakestands to the Cheltenham Fair along with a selection of chairs.

Hope to see you there!
